Welcome to the website of the Department of Histology and Cell Pathology in Zabrze, Silesian Medical University in Katowice, which has been in existence since 1948. The Department, which is honor to me to be chief, serves three missions: teaching, clinical support and research.

The research activities of the Department have mainly focused on the chronic inflammation and coagulation in the different tissues and organs. Our special line of research is a cardiovascular biology and pathology. To the best of our knowledge, we possess one of the biggest endomyocardial biopsy specimens database in the Europe. We have also a large base of other human and animal tissue biopsies including renal, skin and thyroid tissues. We provide support for applied research and diagnostic cell pathology using histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, electron force microscopy, confocal and cryoelectron microscopy techniques.

The vision of the Department of Histology and Cell Pathology is to be a dynamic force in student education and a leader in the applied research.

I addition, I would like to welcome to the Silesian Nanomicroscopy Center, a unique multi-nanomicroscopy center dedicated for applied research on the medical pathology
